"The Jaguar Effect"
I have now owned my 2012 XF Portfolio (Ultimate black with the London tan interior) for about 5 weeks and throughout that time I have experienced something strange.
I have a lot of friends that have other luxury car brands including Audi, BMW, and Mercedes. When one of them shows up with a new car (which seems to happen quite often) it seems to go unnoticed.
Every where I show up with the Jaguar, people need to come out and take a look. Even my friends with their luxury vehicles have made a special point of checking out the car. When I park in a parking lot, people come over to look. People see the car and ask me questions.
The Jag doesn’t cost any more than the other luxury brands and it is not a supercar like a Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls or Lamborgini.
So I’ve named all this extra attention “The Jaguar Effect”.
The other day, I parked my car at the back end of a parking lot, far away from all other cars. No other cars anywhere close. When I came out of the store, there was now a BMW and a Mercedes parked near me.
Do any of you have any interesting stories on “The Jaguar Effect”?

Amen to that,
Happens all the time. Just last week, I had to take my car to get emission inspected. One of the ladies who worked there comes out and says 'that is a very nice car-I'd love to go for a ride in that'. I say to her "maam, I'm sure that you see every type of car come thru here." She goes on to say that 'some just stand out more than others'. So I leave emissions and pull up at the bank. I walk inside and one of the tellers (a male) says 'one of the ladies in here was admiring your car--what is that?' So I go on to tell him. When I'm walking out of the bank, a lady comes up and says 'that's a gorgeous car.' So it happens often. A lot of the time, people don't know exactly what it is, but they know it's something hot. This car has a head turning quotient that I've never witnessed before. And I've owned Benzes, Beemers, Audis, Infiniti and Lexus'. I love the fact that I don't pass myself every other car on the road.

I've got a lot of coworkers wanting to go out to lunch. I ask how they want their ride; mild or wild.
Speaking of mild, if you want to give a very very gentle ride, activate winter mode. Keeps you from lurching off the line (2nd gear starts).

Going slightly off topic, but whenever I have my XFR in manual mode, and allow automatic downchanges when I come to a stop, it always stops in 2nd gear, and subsequently pulls away in second. It doesn't feel any different to when it pulls away in full auto, so is it always pulling away in 2nd gear? If I ever use first, it is so low that it is more or less pointless. I have to point out that living in Houston = no hills, so I have never done a hill start!
i too have had the effect really great sometimes but also annoying at other times with people sticking their greasy hands all over it...
had audis before they are so common no one notices...
we have a great looking car hopefully mechaniclly they hold up...

The XF always pulls away in second gear in either automatic mode unless you really stand on it. For maximum response always manually select first when at a stop to beat that shift delay. Also, use S if you really need to get out of the hole.
In LA, you are what you drive and there is a strong car culture. But I also get looks. I see an occasional XF but they certainly are not as common as BMW (which all look alike except for the model #s on their rear) and MBs. Rarity was something I was after and I could afford to do it with the Jag. Audi is the only competitor in that category.

We took our Jag to the Christmas party with the medical staff, so lots of MBs, BMWs. Porches, etc.
The valets parked ours in the middle of the roundabout, in the "glory spot".
The MB S63 (that costs twice as much) was parked in a parking space.
There's nothing that has the sexiness and pure class of the Jag. Our XJ8L (that was traded for the XF) was the same.

Just purchased my car yesterday and already noticing people doing double takes hahaha. Crazy. My wife just returned from an errand and ran into a woman checking out. As my wife approached the woman said, "gorgeous car." I've heard others complain about the 20" wheels but i absolutely think they make the car.
As a part time photographer I shot a private party at Christmas in a high rise which only has valet parking. I came out to leave after the party was over and there is my car parked dead center at the front. Got to love it. Between my wife's XF and my XK, you can bet I get a lot of unsolicited chick attention.
