Jaguar XFR 2012 5.0 S/C- Intermittent No Fuel Warning Issue?
Hey there,
Back again with more fun times on the new Jag 🤣
So last few drives I've noticed my fuel light/ Low fuel- Gauge shows 0 clearly when I'm at half or even full.
Comes & goes.
Sometimes not at all in an hour drive, othertimes on and off 4-5x per hour drive. Very annoying as it keeps popping a warning on dash everytime it disappears again.
Did some research and got as far as removing the rear seat, cut the circular cut out piece and got to the top of the fuel pump...
Doesn't look horrible, but regardless grabbed some steel wool and cleaned up the connectors prongs. Then inserted plug in and out a bunch of times hoping this might fix 'a dirty connection '.
Haven't test driven it yet to find out, but if this doesn't fix it what would possibly be the next step? -pull pump to check connections within, or is there another prone spot on these cars that tend to cause this dissapearing fuel gauge?
Car is running fine, just annoying orange lights again 😐
I have read the black/blue wire plug in the tank (fuel sender wire plug) degrades over time on these cars, maybe worth pulling the pump- maybe direct connecting them with a crimp connection?
Started the car up and almost instantly No Fuel warning came on again after the exterior plug 'cleaning' trick.
So decided to pull the pump/module etc.
Of course I had to fill it to the brim yesterday so it started pouring fuel all under the car, I ran, grabbed some rags and start siphoning about 23 liters.
Pulled the pump, checked all connections fiddled with plugs bunch of times, ran a earth magnet up and down by fuel sender pivot, cleaned the fuel filter and re-installed it.
started the car for a minute to make sure everything is running alright before installing everything.
Tank showed just over half which makes sense after me draining a bunch. No light came on but time will tell- gonna have to take it for a test run... if still not fixed, I'll probably replace the whole unit with an OEM one.
Glad you got it fixed but you have some light burn marks on the pins?
Hopefully yours won't get worse but I have seen major black marks and melted plastic in that plug before.
With the age and miles on the car you "might" have to replace the fuel pump assembly if it gets worse.
