Default Jerking on low gear Jaguar XF 2011

Hello, I need help my Jaguar XF 2011 3.0 Diesel is jerking more frequently especially on low gear from 25-40 mph speed. I need to go to mechanic but please I need your advice what could be the possible issues. My thinking is to tell the mechanic just to top up the transmission oil. I don’t know what to do. Is it dangerous to continue driving it? I have kids with me. Thanks in advance.

Your right that the first step is to make sure the fluid level is correct. But if it's low you need to think why? These 6 speed ZF's are not known for leaking but with the age and miles you have it is possible. Are you aware of the sealing sleeve problem? It is a known failure that almost 100% of the 6 speeds will have. The sleeve is only $15 or so but can't be installed without dropping the pan. So a perfect time to do it when servicing the transmission.

Now I think you should go ahead and do a fluid service as your car is 12 years old and probably has never had it done. That might fix all your symptoms but continuing to drive it will cause further problems and it sound like you have been doing that for a while?

I have posted this web site before and have used them several times. They are really ZF experts too!
Here is the page for the sealing sleeve but do look at their kits. The recommend changing the pan bolts and the sealing sleeve when doing a fluid change.
Here is just the sleeve it's less than $20.
ZF Parts

Now what worries me is they list a sleeve for the 8 speed too but I have not heard of those leaking? Anybody change a sealing sleeve on the 8 speed ZF?

Hello clubairth1, Thank you really. I just had my Jag ATF changed. The mechanic told me that they needed the oil to be done twice as it was really bad (I don't really know why). That's 18 liters of oil they need that cost £13.40 per litre. I ended up paying them £550 (£350-oil and £200-labour).

Before that, they told me that it needed power flushing as it was pretty bad. I hope nothing that they did will ruin the electronics as I've read somewhere that ZF boxes were not recommended to be power flushed. Knowing my jag is 12 years old and has 260K miles in it with 8 previous owners, I let them do the power flushing.

Anyway, I feels like my Jag is like brand new now - no jerking, less effort when accelerating. Hope she can last 2 years.

That's a lot of miles and owners so I can see doing multiple transmission fluid changes.
Glad it's shifting fine at 260K!

Yes I don't do flushes mainly because of how most shops want to do them but it worked for you.
