Key fob unlocks but does not lock remotely

I have a XF Diesel 2014 model. For some reason the key fob unlocks bit does not lock remotely. I tried changing the battery twice but no luck. Would appreciate any suggestions - thanks

Does it make a noise when you try to lock it?
Have you cleaned the internal contacts of the key fob?
