Knock from front over uneven ground and wobble on steering wheel
Hi,
I've had a look on the forum but nothing seems to match what I experience. Basically I noticed that when driving my XF sprotbrake over uneven rough ground slowly I get a knocking from the from end. This does'nt appear to manifest in normal driving except the odd rubber speed bump. I also notice that when I am driving over bumpier roads I feel a steering wheel judder that doeslnt feel right, It;s like I am feelign the transation of bumps into my hands as a side-to-side judder far too much.
Any pointers or experience would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like some part of the suspension geometry. As a start I'd have the control arm bushings checked - they are wear items and typically by 100k miles they can be quite warn. Several are rubber but one main bushing is fluid filled and when the rubber wears and deteriorates the fluid will leak and you can get symptoms as described. Also jack up each front wheel and grab the wheel itself and try to shake it in and out. Too much play might suggest a tie rod or other component.
If you've not done this before take it to a good suspension shop and they should be able to easily check it out. It's pretty standard stuff

I would start by disconnecting the sway bar end links BEFORE replacing anything!
This is a simple way to eliminate the sway bar and it's bushings for zero cost.
Drive the car over the same spots you noticed the noise before. As posted above the sway bar end links are fairly easy to change BUT the front sway bar bushings while inexpensive are much harder to change out.
Report back if you can as your problems will help others too!
