Hello, I have a 2009 jaguar XF I recently purchases, and it has a number of blemishes. All minor things, but if I can DYI any of them that would be great. Here's the pics of what I found:
Stains on the upholstry
Crack in the wood
Cracks - it's almost like the plastic or coating, not the wood.
scratches
The leather bubbling up on the dash.
Some of these things seem simple, are there any products, methods, or posts someone could direct me to to fix any of this? Also, I have a brown stain in the leather, soap didnt work, how can I remove it?
1. Scratches: Clay bar and polish should take care of it, they don't look too deep at all.
2. Dash pulling up: go to an upholstery shop and have them fix it. Since you are catching it early it shouldn't be too bad. A new dash from Jaguar is very very pricey.
3. Stains on upholstery: Steam cleaner should pull them right out if you have access to one.
4. Cracks in wood: Since these cars use real wood with a clearcoat finish I would actually use some of these techniques used to repair cracks in acoustic guitars:
1. Scratches: IMO they look deep enough to cause problems, clay barring won't remove or diminish scratches, simply remove surface contaminants.
I would certainly though use something along the lines of ScratchX or similar and they may be minimised to some degree, but as far as I can tell from the pics the only real cure would be a repaint
2. Dash pulling up: go to an upholstery shop and have them fix it. Since you are catching it early it shouldn't be too bad. A new dash from Jaguar is very very pricey. Sorry, we don't suffer from that ssue over here in the UK and I can't offer any advice
3. Stains on upholstery: Steam cleaner should pull them right out if you have access to one. Steam cleaner is a good call, or a spot cleaner, a microfibre and a toothbrush
Spray the cleaner onto the rag NOT the affected area and work it into the area in small pushing / twisting circles....do not rub!
Then a small spray onto the toothbrush head and gently work in and then dab gently with a clean dry microfibre. I used this method to great success on some greasy oily fingerprints left on my headliner at some point by someone
4. Cracks in wood: Since these cars use real wood with a clearcoat finish I would actually use some of these techniques used to repair cracks in acoustic guitars: If you really like the wood and want to keep it then there are others with better knowledge than I to help.
You could also consider an interior wrap with brushed aluminium or whatever else takes your fancy.......I did this on my A6 after some panels were slightly scratched / damaged to great effect around 2 years ago, still looks great today and not a huge cost
