Default MY 2012 XF shifter knob doesn't stay up RESOLVED

Hey guys, just noticed early in the morning that when I go to start my car the knob comes up and then goes back down.
Then usually when I release the parking brake or restart the car it works properly.
Anyone else run into this issue?

Most of the time that's due to brake pedal not being pushed down hard enough. Try to make a habit of putting little more pressure on it and see if anything changes.

Man I hate that when that happens..They make little blue pills for that now ya know and of course they are real cheap in Canada..

Sorry..I had to do it

...Seriously, I tried duplicating your issue and couldn't make it happen..either with parking brake set or not...I would Call the Dealer's service, there maybe a program glitch...And or maybe your brake pedal as Ex says, needs a little more pressure

Well played my friend... Well played!
Gonna try that to see!
Have to bring in for my 1 year service anyways. So I'll get them to look at it then.

Cool..Let us know if they find anything..Also, Have them check your wheel alignment too..It's free for the first 15,000 miles..I had mine check and it was off a little and had the tires rotated too...saves tire wear.

Quick update.
They ended up replacing the whole shifter.
So far no problems!
Might be just a one off issue.

They also replaced the water pump.

Why did they need to replace the water pump? Was it leaking?

I didn't think it was. But they said it was leaking?
IIRC isn't this a known problem with the xf's? Or was or recently fixed?

Hey guys. I don't think anyone is having the same issue. But replacing the knob mech didn't work.
Now sometimes I come back to the car and the knob is still up.
Or it'll not stay up when the car starts.
I believe it's a break relase that needs to be looked at.
I notice when I push the brake really hard there a 'tick' that either comes from the drivers side (where the trunk release button is) or it's near the cup holders.
I am going to try an isolate the sound.
But I've noticed it with more frequency.
Quite annoying.
I'm gonna bring back in. But does anyone have any suggestions?
Brutal, I think you work quite a bit on the jags?

don't stress! The beauty of a car under warranty. Now, if it were off warranty like mine I would be stressing it and trying to figure it out for myself before taking it in! I would agree if the module has been replaced that its some other related interlock of some sort. I'm guessing that a replaced module has all the local electronics associated so unless it is a second bad unit (highly unlikely) then a signal to lower or raise is coming from another part of the integrated system.

I'm now having this issue with my '14. I've only had it a few months and is CPO. Will take it in for service soon and see what the dealer says. It will go up most of the time. Sometimes goes back down and retries. Sometimes doesn't come up. Restarting the car fixes it. I assumed that the selector was binding and causing the issue because it had only happened on days it was really humid and really cold. Today it's neither and it didn't come up at all. I made the mistake of seeing if it would rotate and it does rotate right easily but not left so returning the car to P to restart was a joy. Actually had to grab the top of the know with the shop vac to pull it up while rotating.

Was your issue resolved? Will try and get to the dealer soon with mine.

I can't even recall, really? I finished my 3 years lease and gave it back.
But I do remember it getting better; as in, it didn't happen as much.
I think it had something to do with the parking brake? (I could be just making that up?)

I could still rotate mine to switch to Drive and R. You just have to put a bit of pressure on it. Also, keep in mind, if you turn off your car while in D, it will go back to park.
Sorry I can't be of more help!
