Default My 80,000 mi XFR service

Well Higgins is getting close to 80kmi, so while I'm doing the winter break thing I decided to take him down for the service and have a look underneath with all the cover off as I do every 10kmi. The things I found where pretty much normal wear items.

Toe links where pretty much toast.

A quick ball joint cover I used to buy some time until I could do the job right.

Old toe link bar.

Old and new toe links, gotta get the length the same as the old one for the install, alignment is still needed but this will get me to the shop.

New link installed.

Sway bar end link, Bad.

Sway bar link, the other end.

New sway bar end links.

New link installed, its quite a bit beefier.

Out with the old.

Diff Gear lube change time.

The best combination I've found to get this job done.

The shock proof Redline I usually use is gotten really hard to find, so Valvoline full synthetic it is.

Brake fluid change.

Had to stop as I ran int issues (Leaks) with the speed bleeders I was going to use. To be continued.
Merry Xmas to all.

Good stuff Will, Higgins should feel like new after this bunch of Christmas presents, and especially good onya for doing it all yourself.

Thanks for the friendly reminder that I should check into these components. I'm at the same mileage range now

Helpful writeup as always!

Had to let the speed bleeders go, the point won't allow them to seat properly.

I've had this for awhile, works OUTSTANDING. even changed my trucks brake fluid.

My solution to getting my floor jack under the XFR, pull it up on flat bricks. The puck I made to keep the damage off my body seams.

Puck engages the body, not the seam.

Sitting on the the flat bricks.

Alignment time.

I believe I saw a small tear in my rear toe arm ball joint as well. Did you source them from Jag or did you go aftermarket? I have 70k on my XF SC.

LOL, The DOT 5.1 designation is whats important as its a universal spec. Motorcraft actually assures a quality product beyond that, and is readily available. Remember our x250 XF's where designed and built by Jag under Ford ownership..
