Default My first question, need help. Fuel pump issue

I bought this 2011 Jaguar XF 5.0 with only 57,000 miles on it for $3,500. Girl inherited it from her grandad, drove in a few weeks and check engine light came on. Dealer (of all places) told her in needed the HPFP replaced at a cost of $3,000. She could afford that so sold it to me. I replaced the pumps myself for far less. Didn’t fix the 2 codes for low/high pressure fuel rail. On cold starts the idle is rough and the restricted performance info pops up. I feel like the low pressure fuel pump isn’t priming the system. When the car is warm, there’s no issue on startup. On my Audi when cold, I can hear the fuel pump prime the line when I unlock the car and open the driver door. Don’t hear that with the jag. Anyone had this issue? I did find a video on YouTube that addressed the same exact symptoms and they replaced the pump/filter noting burn marks on the connection, but didn’t say if that fixed the problem.

No, I just tried swapping the relay last night with another one but that also didn’t resolve the issue. I have a new fuel filter assembly I’m going to replace this weekend and check for the burned out areas at the connection like I seen in the YouTube video. I’d that doesn’t work I guess I’m replacing the fuel pump itself. Thought?

These fuel pumps do not have a return to the tank system like most injected cars. The low pressure pump gets a pulse width modulated signal from the ECU so it only produces just enough fuel for the high pressure pumps. So I don't think you will hear it prime in the same way.

Have you read the restricted performance codes?

Update! I replaced the fuel pump flange/filter and NOW I can hear the fuel pump prime when I open the door! I don’t know if it was a bad connection somewhere back there or what but I’m stoked that I can hear the pump now. I’ll take it for a test drive tomorrow and if all is well this thread is done! If issues persist I’ll be back! Maybe leave this thread up where the next person with the same issue can find it.
