Nav System "temporary outage"
'09XF, 30K miles. Just finished an 8-day, 10+K trip with one curious problem. One evening when I started the car, the "Navigation" bar on the home page was gray, and did not function. All of the other functions on the display worked normally. Drove a couple of miles, turned the engine/ignition off/on a few times, and ejected/inserted the Nav DVD; Nav system stayed dead.
The next morning, the Navigation pick was again dark blue, and the system has operated normally since (3 days, several hundred miles).
Any ideas?
Thanks, Dick

sounds like a fiber optic issue to me...i know that some of the x350 and 351 series had main communication issues with the rear media deck...The dtc for the main was try to reestablish communication by holding down am/fm and eject at same time then eject and mix...this will cycle the unit to reconnect with the rear media through the fiber optic...if a module was damaged then it would show the code 9920 etc...hope this helps guys...
Thanks for your interest, guys.
wrt reboot: the only thing I tried was ignition off/on and nav dvd eject/load. If I'd known another way to reboot, I probably wouldn't have risked it - a couple of days of driving ahead and all other functions working properly.
wrt fiber-optic cable: you probably know XF doesn't have the same selections of buttons to hold simultaneously, but hadn't thought about the possibility of a code appearing.
Will suggest these to dealer if/when it happens again; or possibly at next service.
Thanks again.

Happened to me tonight. Wife wanted to learn a route through a neighborhood, and the system let us down.

Hope yours recovered quickly. Mine went out a second time last August, but recovered within an hour (next time I started the car). Hasn't happened since, 5000+ miles. Have a '12 on order now; I hope it is as much a pleasure to own/drive as the '09 has been.
When I started the car today, the music started playing promptly, but the screen stayed on the Leaper screen that you see before you start. I drove away, and a few minutes later decided to stop the engine and restart. Then it was fine.
I called my service writer at Jag, and told him about this and the Navigation unavailable incident. He said that sometimes the dash bezel can touch the display and cause a short during boot up. He also said it can be rectified by fitting a spacer to make sure the bezel doesn't touch again. I'll have them do this on my upcoming visit.

Usually these faults go away after a reset which amounts to nothing more than switching off, going out and locking the car. Then open get in and restart. Have on a couple of occations a few months ago resorted to pulling the fuse on the touch screen unit.
