Default Need Navigation Help

I have a 2012 XF.

One of the Screen Modes in the Navigation System allows you to see the next 4 junctions/turn directions in you trip. Is there any way to see all of the future steps in your journey? How do you know what route the Navigation system is really taking beyond the next few turns? If you decide to change the Route Options, how can you see what's really changed in your trip?

I was traveling from New Jersey to Boston last week. There are many different ways to go and I had no idea what route the Navigation was taking me. I pressed every button and couldn't find the full route.

I have searched through the Forums and couldn't find this topic covered. I did read a lot of complaints about the Navigation system. I must say, I also have a Honda Accord and its Navigation system is really well layed out and very intuitive. To see all of the turn by turn step, you press a button and just scroll through the steps, beginning to end. Their system is very simple and well thought out.

Can someone help?

Thanks,

Ken

I've never used the turn-by-turn split screen funtion but I don't think you can scroll it through the entire route. I know what you mean about looking at 3 different route selections for a 500 mile trip displayed end to end. You have absolutely no idea where the routes will take you. On my S-types and for shorter trips, I would program the one of the routes and manually move the cursor over the entire route to see where it would take me. This was a real pain the neck. On my 09 XF, there was a wonderful route preview function that replaced fumbling around manually doing a route trace. The route preview automatically traced the full route in a fast mode in less than minute so you could see every road you would travel and any city or town that you would pass through for a selected route. If you didn't like it, you merely cancelled the guidance and selected a different route. Then you could do a route preview on the different route to see the same kind of detail. Unfortunately, the 2012 Nav system eliminated the route preview function so I'll have to go back to the manual method If I want to examine an entire route in detail. Ugh!
