New XF owner - startup noise question
Hi, I picked up a Jaguar XF 3.0D at the weekend and so far think it's a great car! However today I noticed a strange rattleling sound, lasting only a few seconds coming from the engine on cold starts. I'm hoping some of you knowledgable Jag owners can ID the noise for me. I have posted a link to a quick YouTube clip below.
After the first start, the noise will not repeat until left to stand for a few hours. The engine is otherwise near silent - no whistling or clattering and it pulls effortlessly. According to the dealer I purchased the car from, both turbos had been replaced at 135000 - I didn't see this as the selling point that he did, however i could appreciate that a high mileage ex motorway car is likely to prematurely age a turbo. Especially if the turbo was constantly starved of fresh oil by being switched off without idling.
Please have a look at the video and let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
Andy

I didn't hear anything abnormal...I've worked on and near and taught Diesel engines of all sizes and makes for many years, Mostly Power generator engines and some automotive...But I do know typically, that Diesels have a 'cold clatter' when they first start until the combustion chambers warm up a little....But, Don't trust me..have it checked out if you're worried.
