Obd port struggle to connect

Obd port struggle to connect
Hi all
I have a 2010 xf which used to connect fine through the obd socket but when one day using my laptop connected through the socket it would not connect.
Checking the lead I noticed that one of the pins had got bent so straightened it but still would not connect so thought it was the lead.
But I also have a obd reader which also would not connect but if I keep trying eventually it will connect I have had a quick look at the port on the car for damage but seems fine so has anyone any idea what the fault might be.
