Default Oil leak from both camshaft covers

Hi,

As indicated in the title, my 2011 5.0 n/a has oil leaks from the camshaft covers of both banks. I’m looking for qualified advice on whether I should replace only the gaskets or replace the cam covers as well. Please let me know.

Thanks

I had that happen when I purchased mine, and did the dumbest thing by snugging the bolts slightly then cleaned up the oil around, never leaked since, but this may not work for everyone you may end up replacing the gasket, I had oil all over the tensioner pulley over the covers a mess. But it did the trick, I did the front to

Thanks for your reply Dennis. I can only hope for such a relatively easy fix. Obviously, I’d prefer not to have the hassle to replace the covers or gaskets. Both banks are leaking on the lower sides towards the rear, so on the left bank oil is dripping onto the steering pinion housing. I need to take a closer look with my inspection camera.

I asked about the camshaft cover vs just gasket replacement. I see that JLR offers the covers as a complete replacement and that the aftermarket has stepped in with just gasket kits. That suggests to me that in most cases just a gasket replacement is sufficient.

It's been around 3 to 4 years now, took of both belts ,both tensioner pulleys ,there's a bracket with a pulley behind it , now you have access to the 8mm bolts ,give it a slight snug also snug the head gasket cover ,you will see some T30 torx screws I also snuggled, clean the front and wipe of the alternator, make sure your oil level is not overfilled, drain and fill to correct level,I have a video coming soon explaining this
