Did you turn on only the ignition and open the bonnet?

Yes, you're supposed to fully warm the engine and then shut it off for about 10 minutes. The oil level will then show when you turn on the ignition without starting the engine.

easy trick.

when you are done driving for the day. after shut down, ignition on I think. hit the button on the stalk to check the oil. it will tell you see handbook. shut off ignition and the next morning when you turn on ignition the oil level will show up.
