Options for Tire Sizes?
Hello everyone,
I have my 2009 XF in the shop right for some mechanical issues. The mechanic called today and said that my car was barely road worthy with the state of the tires. It has been something I’ve needed for a while but wanted to explore my options.
I would like to get a low profile and wide tire size for the OEM 19” wheels. I wanted to get something more pleasing on the eyes. If anyone could give me any insight I would much appreciate it. I would like to know what is the max I could push the ratio while mainting a thinner width of the sidewall and larger width on the tread.
Also, I am considering just buying a tire/wheel set to replace the four old wheels with either 19” or 20”. What offset would I need? And if I chose 20” wheels what tires would work on that platform?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me and I apologize for not being mechanically (or vehicle) saavy.
Thank you all!
-Tom

In the UK, the 19” OEM rims are 8.5J. If yours are the same, the widest you can safely go is 255 (stock is 245/40/19). Normally you’d drop the ratio by one to accommodate one increase in width (255/35/19), but for all the difference I’d say stick with stock.
