Default P0724 code : brake switch B ... thoughts?

My dads XF is throwing this code without a CEL. I pulled the codes, bc his car went into restricted performance. The brake lights work and the shifter doesn't have any issues.

Is this the brake switch on the peddle ?

Has anybody else seen this issue ?

Thoughts? I’m guessing replace the one on the pedal, as that is what it mentions on other makes.

Yep, most likely the brake pedal switch, so that's what I would replace. Not all that expensive for a new one, in theory a quick simple easy job, but in practice you need to be a 7 stone contortionist to get at it, "larger" persons need not apply!

Ok.. replaced the switch.

Easy out ...hard going in, as always. The code didn’t go away, so I reset it to see if it comes back.

For those doing this.. it’s 1/4 turn clockwise to unlock. Installing 1/4 turn counter to make it lock. The best way to reach it, is kneeling in doorway reaching up left arm.

Would probably only self-clear as with other P0 codes i.e. after 3 warm ups.

Thanks. I agree, my Porsche is that way.

My challenge was when I replaced the gas pedal in this car, it reset after I plugged it in. Maybe it depends on code type.
