Have an interesting problem ('12 XF Portfolio US):

The right hand (passenger side) door lock does not engage fully when exiting the vehicle and clicking on the lock button of the fob. I get the second beep a few seconds after the first to let me know that not all the doors are locked...I have been having to re-enter the car from the driver side, reaching across, and manually pushing the lock tab in to engage that lock so the car can be secured.

Has anyone else ever run across this...or am I looking at replacing the interior door handle or some other multiple Jaguar Monetary Units worth of repair?

The lock actuators have multiple little electric motors and gears inside them, they don't last forever. If you're handy, you can remove the actuator from the door, dismantle it and replace the necessary part / parts- probably a motor by the sound of it. There are a few threads on this; here's one of mine:

Hi My UK XF'10 has a similar problem which I think is a software issue. I sometimes have to click the lock button several times to get full lock and mirrors parked. But if the car is not locked and your fob is away, anyone opening the doors will set off the alarm.
On a previous identical XF 6 years ago I had the front door systems replaced at a Jaguar dealer for about £500. I wonder now if I really needed to do that.

Thanks for the info; I think at this stage I'm going to let my wrench look at it (he's JLR savvy) when I bring it in next month for an oil change; I have only put 1500 miles on it since all the engine, cooling system, and paint work has been done over the summer...but he found some metal in the filter when he changed it in June, so we decided to drive for a couple months, pull the filter and oil and see if there was additional shiny stuff in the filter...I have a 36 month powertrain service contract on it...so if the front has to come off for the timing chain/vvt/etc work, that is specifically called out...)

If it's a simple fix...may just have him do it...if not and going to run into multiple thousands of dollars in parts and lablr...think that just dumping the car on various marketplaces or putting on BAT will be my next step. Not my first Jaguar...and know what is involved in ownership, but really don't have the umph I had 15 or 20 years ago when I was actively driving and rebuilding Lotuses and XJ8s.

Update 9/20 AM:
Found NIB OEM right side lock mechanism, Jag part number, from a supplier I trust in OH. Been watching videos (a bit fiddly...remove the window, reallY?) but seems all you need is a small common screwdriver, T20 and T30 torx drivers, and an hour of time or so. Only other thing I could imagine it was is the cable sheath abutment at either end of the door handle cable coming adrift but I guess if I tackle it, I'll find that out soon enough..

Doubt it's a software problem. This is a way common failure. It's a door actuator as posted up thread. If you have SDD that will tell you which actuator is causing problems. I can't say if any after market scanner will do this?

The parts are not that expensive but as you posted the labor can be.

Had another issue: the blinkers on either side alternatively wanting to work properly or not...an electrical system drain (disconnect positive cable to battery, short to ground pole (with positive side of the battery COMPLETELY disconnected...) let sit for a minute, put back together, and restart...all back to normal. PITA to have to set the drive away locking, clock, and some other options again, but, it is what it is.

Don't have the SDD; but going to drive her down to PA from my MA house tomorrow...first long interstate/motorway thrash...and bring over to Ross at Jaguar Specialists in Fairless Hills PA. Ross is good folk...I'll ask him to scan and let me know. I did pick up that spare right front module and have been scouring youtube for how to fix. I've built cars from bare frames up, so not daunting (yeah, right?) to do this, and have the tools..just have to steel myself to doing it. For now, before I get out, I make sure the locking tab on the passenger door is fully pushed in so all the rest of the locks click. If not, the single beep 5 seconds after I push the fob button let me know to do it.

Labor is ALWAYS more expensive...just did my last Cessna annual before selling...parts: 500. Labor: 2000. Glad, yet sad, she's gone on to a new owner (we split the cost of the annual as part of the agreement of sale..)
