Default Problems Locking S Type

I am a new Jag S Type owner. I am the proud owner of a 2003 model in great condition. However, I am unable to lock the car. Using the fob, it clicks locked, and then clicks unlocked. Using the key in the lock and turning to the right, it does the same thing... clicks locked and then unlocked. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Default Try this...

Standard behavior on these cars is when driver door unlocks, all doors unlock.

My '01 has the same problem - evidently the driver door lock mechanism can't completely latch the lock so the system senses driver door unlocked and automatically unlocks all doors. This happens both when I try to lock with fob from outside, or when driving away. Locks click in locked position, then quickly unlock. Seems to be more of a problem in warm weather.

My work around is to grab the interior driver lock lever and lock/unlock it 3-4 times in a row before closing the door and using the fob, or do same before driving away. For some reason, this allows the lock to work correctly temporarily. It works for us, so try it and let me know how it works.

Apparently, it's a common problem, so do a search on the forum for other suggestions if this one doesn't work. Of course the real solution involves removing the inside door panel and doing some work in the door, which sounds expensive. My work around saved me a lot of $$ and works fine.

before buying a new one try to spray some rost off spray with a little nozzle inside the latch, then close the door and open it a couple of times. Worth the shot, rost off is not more than 10 bucks at your local parts store.

Thanks. I tried WD-40 on mine. Made the mechanism operated more smoothly but didn't fix the lock problem. Mine feels like there is some linkage inside that can't quit trip the lock without a little muscle help.

Perhaps the OP will have more luck.
