Default Permanent solution for rattles?

Hey Guys,

I took my car (2011 XF) into the dealership for the sunroof area rattles and they spread silicone on the rubber seal. I drove home last night and quiet as a mouse. Today, hot and humid day in Cleveland, rattle city. Every bump or imperfection in the road i hear the rattle. Has anybody completely elimated rattle from their Jag? The service advisor asked how much it annoys me and if I wanted to have them take a look again. It stop when I tilt the sunroof, but there has to be a solution, right? My Lexus had dash rattles and they took the dash apart and put more padding or support to remedy the noise. I think there are headliner clips around the sunroof area that need adjustment. What do I do next? Take it in again?

Sunroof may creak when dirt gets into the too hard rubber seal, normal but annoying and a mickey mouse defect not suffered by other cars. Silicone cleaner/lube is the cure for creaks caused by dust. Aero 2000 works well.

However, if it rattles then it is defective and it needs to be fixed. I think the clips are the problem from posts I have seen on a UK site. The sunroof definitely should not rattle.

From my understanding, the service technician orignially "fixed" the clips, but never replaced. Perhaps this is the issue? Today the creaking wasn't too bad.

Replacing the clips and constantly using silicone spray will work...

Why didn't they just replace the seal. I replace them all the time for your issue. Tell them to replace the seal. Not just lube it.

Isn't the replacement seal the same though? On mine the rubber sunroof seal seems quite hard compared to other cars I have owned. On mine it is clearly the dust that gets in between the seal and the roof that causes the squeaking. Using silicone spray and a rag to wipe off the seal works for about a month.

I'm not sure, I'm calling the service advisor now to find out how long this will take to do. I will mention the seal and the clips to them and tell them to replace both of them. Thanks for the help, will let you know how it goes.
