I have seen some awful bits of plastic serving as universal phone holders which slot in the cup holder. One actually looked OK, with additional 12v and USB sockets but not worth £15 to wait for 2 months for it to arrive from China and not hold my phone (Galaxy S8) securely.

But I really would like to use that spot on the console for my phone to switch tracks, as my arm basically rests there anyway and the phone already loosely sits in the cup holder already, (until I enter dynamic mode). I'd happily lose the 2 cup holders to have my phone slot flat in to that compartment if I could fashion some sort of surround to keep it firmly in place. Any ideas? I could use a couple of cylindrical pieces as a base for it to rest on, maybe with anti-slip pads to stop it flying out the top.

 

In hindsight maybe I can just get a sticky mat to sit on the closed single cup-holder flap. I'm guessing you can buy the material in sheets and can even cut to size for that panel.
