Default Rear Brakes

Hello all, I'm new to this forum.

I'm having an issue with rear brakes on my friends 2009 XF. I've replaced the pads and rotors but now the brake pedal is almost going to the floor.
The fluid reservoir is full. I did not know about the EPB reset procedure, but he has done that and it is still doing the same thing.

Anyone have any idea what can be causing this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

David

Thanks for your reply!

I haven't thought about that, I'll have to check and see if there any fluid around it or leakage.

What are the symptoms if the EPB process if not followed correctly? Any idea?

Thanks again!

If you haven't done so already, bleed the brakes. If you have, it might be worth doing that again.

I haven't yet but will. I'm thinking the master cyl has failed. I don't understand why this would occur after doing the rear brakes were done though.

What is the symptoms of the EPB process not completed properly?

Anyone know?

(1) Make sure your brake fluid reservoir is full (BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE)
(2) Bleed the brakes so as to make sure you don't have air in the lines.
(3) Wipe everything clean and check that you don't have any leaks.

If the master cylinder wasnt bad before you did the brake job. As in the brakes were working fine just worn, it is not going to go bad during the brake job.

The reservoir was completely full when I finish the brake job. I will have to check it again when he comes over sat.
Thanks!

Can anyone tell me what the symptoms of not resetting the E Parking Brake are?

Is it just not being able to use the PB or does it recalibrate the rear brakes and place the caliper pistons in the correct position?

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Like others have said, possibly air in the line. Did you bleed the lines?

I haven't been able to work on it yet. We are
Working in it sat. I plan to check the EPB and to see what the calipers Are doing when he presses the pedal. Also pull the calipers back off and check as well. Once I get all of that done, I plan to bleed the brakes as well because I see a lot of things saying to bleed the brakes after the brake job on these particular cars even though I don't understand how air would have gotten in the system.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Keep the ideas coming!

We fixed the problem today by bleeding the brakes as recommended. The right rear had a good bit of air in it (still don't know how or why) so when I bled it, all of the soft pedal issue was gone. I went ahead and bled the drivers rear as well for good measure.

Thanks again to everyone for your help!
