Default Rear springs ... this can't be good

I was inspecting the underside of my 2011 5.0 n/a on Sunday and discovered the condition of the rear springs. Both left and right seem to be failing at the bottom. Is this a common or known failure of these parts?

You did not post where you live??
If in salt area's that would be normal and I don't see anything failing? Do you have a problem with the car?

Are you worried about the black paint peeling and flaking off? Pretty common from what I have seen?

@clubairth1 Don't you think that it is more than paint peeling off? Otherwise, it is remarkably thick paint.

Yes, the car has been driven in snow. The last time I measured the ride height it was at or just lower than the lower limit of the tolerance. I'm sure that if I measured now the ride height would be outside of tolerance on all 4 corners. Also, the ride is now quite choppy at slow speeds on anything other than very smooth surfaces.

Yes I would stop worrying as it's completely normal. Have you looked under any other cars?
It's so minor I bet the guys in salt country could post pictures that would make you cry!

It might be more of a sound insulation material. I am working on a Rav4 right now, and it looks like that. It's not paint, but looks and feels like some kind of plastic-y insulation, probably to improve NVH.
