Default Replacement Air Filters

I have read through a few older threads discussing replacement of the XFR/XFR panel filters, and am aware of the potential issues with air flow imbalance and oiling of the MAF sensors.

My question is, who is running with replacement/upgraded panel filters in their XF? I have been considering doing this. I am aware that extra hp won't suddenly appear, but I would hope for a little low end improvement in response from derestricting the air flow, and maybe a more interesting induction sound.

I am interested to hear of anyone's experience of running with different filters on the XF - what type etc. I have no experience with foam filters and am concerned about them letting dirt through, breaking down after an amount of time etc. I have been in touch with ITG who do have a fit for the XFR at $114, which seems quite reasonable.

Do any manufacturers of mainstream cars use anything else than paper filters?

By definition, low restriction filters cannot improve engine breathing at low airflows. Supercharged engines are detonation limited so the air filter will have no effect on power. Since the factory filter can flow enough air at full boost there can be no advantage to using a supposedly less restrictive filter.

Added noise is what you get which makes the engine sound more powerful. Makes zero difference to the stop light GP leader board.
