Were you able to successfully replace the battery? If not I would try that first, it takes all of 5 minutes to do yourself. If so, is it still not opening the car?
If you really have to get a new key fob, you can buy unprogrammed ones on ebay for $160-$200 shipped. You would just need to get the key laser cut (not as expensive as it sounds, I had it done with my old Lexus) and have it programmed to your car. From some quick research, it does not look like you are able to program it yourself like you can with some vehicles so you will have to take it in to the dealership. Not sure what they would charge you but I would assume something dumb like $100.

I'm not clear on the extent of the damage to the fob or the problem here. Is the fob totally dead?
1. won't unlock/lock the vehicle
2. won't allow the vehicle to start
Or is it just the unlock/lock function that won't work and the only way to enter the vehicle is using the key blade but the vehicle will then start?
Your XF has the same design of fob as my XK and it is definitely dealer (or an independent with dealer level diagnostics) programmable. On earlier Jaguar models the fobs can be programmed by owners but not the current models.
