I know this is a shot in the dark question but I'm going to ask it anyway!

I was driving my 2011 2.2D XF home last night and noticed the gear changes were quite jerky. About 5 miles later I got a restricted performance message on the dashboard (Red) and performance was indeed restricted. Then the auto box stayed in gear and limited to 30mph.

I got home, restarted the car and the message was still there.

I plugged and OBDII reader in and it said there were no error codes. I chose 'Read codes' anyway and it showed up 7e8 and 7e9 which looked like the engine and gearbox sub menus. I cleared both just to see what it would do and it fired up and ran normally for 10 miles.

Now, I know there is a problem and I know it's likely to come back. With basic tools does anyone have any fault finding tips because Jag can't see me for almost a month!

Really hard to diagnose without codes. I'm surprised if you're getting restricted performance that you don't have error codes logged?

 

Sounds like a weird/non-working OBD tool.
