Hi all, new member, new to Jaguar but having had the car a week I already know my next car is going to be a Jag. Anyway, I digress. So sat nav has the disc in it for UK and the map comes on but when I try to put an address in it gives me an error message no routes or such available for selected region. I've cleaned the disc, reset to defaults and made sure my language is English but no avail... can anyone help? Thanks in advance everyone. Chris.

The only time I've seen something like this is coming back across the Channel from mainland Europe and forgetting to change the DVD.
1. genuine Jaguar navigation DVD or aftermarket?
2. a recent fault on a previously functioning system or did you acquire the vehicle like this?
3. does the map display your actual location?
Thank you for the reply. OK, I've had the car for 6 days, I bought a disc from ebay, no disc in the car when it arrived, the map comes on when I press the nav button on the display, but no European map with uk highlighted which I've heard mentioned, and I have no idea if it worked before or not.
You could be inheriting an unresolved issue from the PO.
The OEM disc from Jaguar installs firmware. The Europe set I have is a 4 DVD set. When I first inserted a disc, the nav unit went through a lengthy loading and update procedure; when I change discs it appears to recognise the software is equivalent and goes direct to navigation.
JLR have not issued update NAVTEQ discs for some time. Any that are available are usually cloned from another vehicle manufacturer update and not necessarily compatible. I'm loathe to recommend where to source updates but can say I've used Western Europe update discs B and C for France and Spain from here both in my Bentley Continental GT and Jaguar XK with no problems:
I did buy the disc from ebay, and yeah its probably a copy, single disc, "B" for UK, plus, and I don't know if this will of affected it or not as I was a novice... I've inadvertently tried to but the disc in the bottom slot (not an actual slot) and scratched the edge before realising it actually goes in the opening at the top of the dvd reader... maybe my own fault. I'll try the disc you recommended, rather pay another £30 than start looking for problems with the Nav display itself. Thanks very much Graham, I appreciate your help. Ps I've looked at the new Continental and it is quite a machine!
..... it does display my location with just the map on, knows where I am and moves with me etc.
That's good news. The GPS is clearly working (the expensive bit!) and this raises the likelihood of an incompatible disc.
You could try a 'hard reset' which would force the nav to reload the disc. However, this puts ALL learned adaptions back to factory default (fuel trims, window travel limits, radio presets) and can be more bother than its worth.
I can try the reset thing... how do I find it? And if i do what does it actually reset? May be a daft question but I've had it remapped (Stage 1) will that be reset/lost also? I know about the windows needing to be reset once the battery is disconnected (i can do that one) but unsure what else I'll need to re program once complete. Radio station memory is the least of my worries (I can set them OK after a bit of faffing figured it out)
A 'hard reset' (removing both battery leads and touching them together for approx 30 seconds) discharges the capacitors.
The usual reason for this to be applied is to reset the likes of fuel trims back to factory default. It loses 'learned adaptions' such as window travel limits and personal settings but doesn't affect programmed modules. An example of this is the security module which will always reboot to its previous state after a battery disconnect/reconnect to ensure it cannot be bypassed by this procedure.
Removing the nav disc and then doing a hard reset could force the SatNav to reboot and search for a new disc. Theoretical only because I've seen the SatNav do this after a battery replacement.
Fuel trims? Unsure what that is... but yeah I'll give it a go and let you know the results. Failing that do you have a link to get a proper disc for it? Ideally could do with finding someone local first just to see if their disc works... then I can be certain it is just a naff disc issue.

Chris,
Worth going 'off topic' for a brief explanation of fuel trim. This is the adaptive strategy to adjust fuel injector pulse width (open time) to compensate for wear or system changes.
Controlled by the ECU are:
1. STFT - short term fuel trim
The temporary and frequent change to injector pulse to compensate for differences in engine load such as when climbing a hill or decelerating
2. LTFT - long term fuel trim
A more permanent adaption where the ECU adjusts fuel trim for ambient temperature or altitude. You can climb the Stelvio Pass or cross the Pyrenees without stopping half way up to manually adjust the mixture!
As for the SatNav, borrowing a genuine disc would be the best way forward.
Sorry for the delay in replying. So does the car re learn these fuel trims itself? What's recommended to re learn, do I have to drive a certain way for a certain time? Battery is disconnected as we speak! Also, not sure if this is true but I did hear something about the car having to re learn where the accelerator is/how depressed it is at any given time.. is this true?
There's no consistency in the Jaguar battery disconnect/reconnect procedures. Accelerator pedal position had to be re-learned on XK8/XKR but not on the later XK/XKR. Fuel trims re-learn just through normal driving on most models but are reset by letting the engine idle for a specified period on my XK. The X250 procedure suggests it's similar.
I've checked the Workshop Manual for the 2010 X250 to see what applies to your vehicle. Here's the relevant extract:
Yours is around the time BMS was introduced so may or may not have this fitted. Most of us don't worry about re-calibrating BMS with SDD as it does it by itself over a short period of time.
OK so I did the reset thing to no avail, I did however buy the disc you recommended... it works! Just the poor ebay cooy that was causing the issue... and now that I look at it (the copy) it actually looks like a music cd, not purple blue ish like a DVD would be. It's going back anyway. Thank you so much for all your help and to be honest, very valuable information. Now to get rid of the driver door squeak coming from what seems to be the speaker cover, it's not the speaker it happens whilst radio is off, intermittently may just need some lube on the seals or seals replace.
