Default Squeaky Dash - 2012 XF

Over the last couple of hundred miles, the dash has started making squeaky noises. It sounds just like dry leather/vinyl rubbing against dry glass. I know squeaks and rattles are common as a car gets older, but this has really been getting on my nerve. I cannot take quiet drives anymore and listen to the engine, I have to have the radio on to over power the squeaky noises.

The noise is coming from across the entire dashboard where it meets the windshield. Has anyone encountered anything similar? If so, any resolutions to the issue? My car is the Portfolio model, not sure if it makes a difference.

I can't help you with the cause, but try spraying some PTFE spray where the dash meets the window. You may need one of those little tubes to get it in there.

My 2013 makes a "knocking" sound where the center of the dash meets the windshield. It may be coming from the dash mounted subwoofer. I'm planning on having the dealer take a look at it under warranty when I have it in for service next month. Will let you know if they solve it.

I had a very similar issue. Eventually worked out that it is the outer rubber trim along the bottom of the windscreen. On mine there is a thick rubber trim about an inch high along the bottom of the windscreen outside. I ran baby wipes underneath the rubber using my finger to get all the grime and dirt out. Then I used a little sil-glide on it. It has been great since then
It still comes back when it's very cold - but nothing like as bad as it used to be

Thank you sir! This is exactly the issue I am currently facing, I'll follow what you did.

I'll use this to wipe:

Thanks for the input everyone.

Fixed the squeaks by using silicone spray, used the skinny extender tube and sprayed it on the rubber seal across the entire dash, immediately wiping off any excess.

The car is finally silent, but now it smells like grease inside

I will try this out on mine. My squeak is coming from the glovebox area. Haven't been able to isolate it yet. Very annoying though!

I have found quieting squeaks with talc works well in some situations. Like seat squabs rubbing against the side of the console. Just put a little on your hand and wipe down the rubbing surfaces.

That's okay Lew on White, Ivory or Tan leather..Black leather, it would show too much...Unless there is a African American Talc product.
