Default Tires-Continental DWS06

So its about time for me to replace the tires on the XF. 2010 XF Supercharged. For the price point I am looking at the Continental DWS06 models. I have heard positive things from XF owners about that tire. Any forum users have experience with them? Thank you.

decent tire - good all around all season. the best in the business at nothing, but pretty good at most things

It is a very good tire and is by no means a "compromise." Depending on where you live and your driving conditions it may be the best you can get for your needs. I found a good deal at Discount Tire.

Thanks. I went with the Continental DWS06, so far I am very pleased w them. I find they are near the same level as the Michelin Pilot Sport AS which I had before, and also a bit more affordable.

Have them on my car, an excellent all round tire with plenty of grip, very good in the wet and even snow.I'd buy them again.

I really liked the Continental’s that came on both our XFs from the factory, until one day when the tread separated from the sidewall on the freeway while my woman was driving.

Could have been fatal.

Tire was less than 4 years old, always inflated correctly and lots of tread left. Googled it, and found out it was common with Continental tires.

Off came the Continentals on both XF and on went the Michelins.

Then the sidewall bubbles started. Googled it, turns out really common with the Michelins. Not safe, so off come the Michelins and on go the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500’s.

What could go wrong with Firestone tires?? Turns out nothing. They have been awesome tires, and much less expensive than the Michelins and Continentals.

You don’t always get what you pay for.

I had brand new Firestone tires installed on my 08 Chevrolet Silverado back in 2013, tires were less than a year old and in 2014 the sidewall blew out on one of the front tires. The tire shop replaced it for free, and found no objects in the tire, and nothing was hit. They believed a manufacturing defect was the culprit. I think it's hit and miss, and that any tire could potentially fail. So many variables that could cause tire failure -defects, road debris, pot holes etc. Most users who have the Continental DWS06 on their XF's have been satisfied.

I had Firestones on my car when I lived in the UK and I was astonished at how terrible they were for the price. Average grip in the dry, mediocre bordering on dangerous grip in the wet, but my main memory is horrendous road noise - which I'd have put up with if they were hard-wearing but they lasted significantly less time than any other brand I'd run. I'd sooner put LingLong Ditchfinders on because if I'm going to take that kind of a gamble I may as well save some cash.

Maybe they've improved in the years since but I'm really happy with the Michelin Pilot 4s I've just had fitted. I had Conti DWSs before which seemed fine for all-seasons when I thought I might need them driving up north in the winter, which never ended up happening enough to warrant it.

If you haven't tried the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's, they are the bomb. Check out the reviews. They aren't your grandpa's Firestones.

At the time that Firestone was bought out by Bridgestone of Japan in 1988, the quality and performance of most of their models of tire was very poor. Since that time (mostly recently) Bridgestone has made improvements, but Firestone is still the budget brand in their portfolio. As with every brand of tire the quality and performance will vary with the model used (and will sometimes vary among different sizes of the same model). As a very general rule brands such as Michelin, Continental, and Pirelli will rank higher in most cases.
Regarding Continental, the DWS 06 model is a substantial improvement over the original DWS model of a few years ago, which was itself an even larger improvement over the Conti all season model that came with the XF from the factory.
