Default Tires size - need help

Hi guys,

I would like to ask you for help with regards of purchasing some winter tires.

My all season tires for my 2010 XF are 255/35z/20 97W XL
I have a friend that will sell me his winter tires (Blizzak DM Vi 245/50/20)

My question is, did his tires will fit my car?

I thought to ask here, as the Jag dealership is close on Sunday.

Thank you in advance,
M

Those winter tires will have a significantly greater diameter than your existing tires, 29.7" vs 27" (754 mm vs 686 mm), or 2.7" (68 mm) more.
Which means they will fill the top of the wheel arch by 1/2 of that difference or 34 mm.
Which in turn should give enough clearance to avoid rubbing/scraping, seeing as the stock XF clearance is reasonably generous.
But if you have lowered suspension and/or you load up the back with passengers, luggage etc you may have a problem.
They will also throw the speedo out by nearly 10% 'under-read', but seeing as the stock XF speedo usually over-reads by around 6% you should end up with a true under-read of around 4%.
This is the wheel/tire calculator I use:

That is too much of a change in width and diameter. With snow packed on the tire, this may rub significantly causing damage to body parts.

Thank you for your help guys.
Unfortunately the Jaguar tech advise me to not purchase the tires are they are little to high for the space available.
Cheers,
M
