Default Transmission shifting into Sport Mode

Recently I have noticed a strange issue with the transmission.

As I accelerate from stop...if I "floor" it the transmission will sometimes jump into Sport Mode (1,2,3,4,5,6) shows up on the dash. Any idea's on what could be causing this?

Of course I can tell right away the car is in certain gear and I hold down the + paddle shifter to shift out of sport.

Perhaps you are accidentally touching one of the paddles? You can change the option under setup to only activate paddles when in sport mode. Give that a try.

When I drove the XE I was interested to see what the difference between maximum acceleration was in sport mode vs regular mode, so I put it in sport mode and floored it. I then took it out of sport mode and floored it. I mentioned to the Jaguar rep who was riding with me that there didn't seem to be much difference. He told me that flooring it caused the ECU to assume you needed the maximum available acceleration and it automatically put the car in sport mode even if it was not selected.

If the number come up this is manual mode, not sport mode right? Or am I wrong?

Really? Is this only in 2012+ models?

that is correct, if the numbers show up....its in manual...not sport.

its possible you're hitting a paddle on the steering wheel

Sometimes when I'm turning my knee accidentally hits the paddle shifter and throws the transmission into manual mode. Damn annoying for sure.

It won't give you any more power, but Sport mode will keep the transmission in a rev range to give you more power sooner. It also will change suspension to be firmer on adaptive cars. Can't remember if it changes throttle response to be more sensitive than Dynamic or not.

Changing the transmission selector from "D" to "S" affects the transmission only, with no effect on suspension or throttle. Dynamic Mode affects all three, suspension (in supercharged 5 liter models), throttle response, and transmission. Because the transmission holds a lower gear in "S" and accelerates more quickly, it feels to the driver as if throttle response is quickened, but it is unchanged.
