Default Wanting an XF for my new car need help

Okay so at present i have an X-type. I am going to upgrade to an XF but am unsure of which ones to avoid and which are best etc.

What is the difference between an XF and XFR/S?

Most XF's under £10,000 (UK) are diesel I would have preferred a petrol really but don't want to spend more than £10,000 really.

I'm 29 so i can't be affording to run any 4.0L plus i ideally need 2.7 - 3.0

Any tips at all would me much appreciated.

Thanks,

Marc.

I dont know much about UK prices, but what happened was that in petrol they came out in a 4.2V8 NA (had one, a bit thirsty and not very fast but sound great - look at about 13l/100km out of them driven fairly normally). Then from about 2010 they changed to a 5.0V8 NA. They werent quite as thirsty, performed much better, but didnt sound as good. With economy I was getting about 12l/100km out of mine.

Then from about 2013 they discontinued the NA V8 and settled for the 3.0 S/C 6 which I've driven, it seemed very good - nearly as quick as the 5.0.
But I'd imagine that they would be pretty expensive still, so at your budget you might be looking at the 4.2 or early 5.0. There is also a little 4 cyl turbo in the past few years which I havent driven.

So then you have the diesels which I dont know that much about. The first models were a 2.7l 6 cyl turbo. That was an older engine, a bit slow but some people had them chipped. Then came the 3.0 twin turbo six, which I have driven. That is a beautiful engine, very quick (0 - 100kph in 6 seconds) and sounds awesome, in acceleration all you hear is air getting sucked in. And great economy too, around 30mpg plus. After that came the little 4 cyl turbo, 2.2 I think. I havent driven that.

The XFR and the XFRS both use the 5.0 supercharged engine. I havent driven either but have the engine in my XKR. It is insane.

My apologies, I forgot about the original V6 petrol. That was out for at least the first few years from 2008. It was quite nice to drive, a little noisy under load but it sounded good.
