When do Jaguars start having issues?
I have a 2009 Jaguar XF with 82,000 miles.
And I'm scared to death of it. I haven't really had any problems yet, except it was shifting funny for a few days, but I'm wondering what age these things start having problems. Am I good to go a while yet or can I start expecting some trouble at this age?

Mine is the same year and has started having a few issues. Most have been software updates that fixed them. I also had shifting issues, it was as if it would rev high then shift. Again, a re-programing seemed to fix it although it took several times. They finally found a problem with an oxygen sensor later that same month that kept throwing a check engine light.
Now, I've been smelling a faint coolant smell and my local jaguar mechanic found a weeping at the thermostat housing. I took car to dealer since I still have select warranty. They also found the issue but said it would take replacing the housing but until it broke, Jaguar wouldn't cover the repair. WHAT?????? So now I get to wait until I'm stranded with a blown housing.
It's the same basic engine in my XK8 (same exact coolant issue!) so I'm prepared to deal with issues as it ages. They just don't expect these cars to hold up I guess. Partner's porsche is two years older and never has a single problem. Really pisses me off!
Honestly, I love Jaguar but from my experience owning 9 in the last 15 years, they DO NOT age well mechanically. And, yes, I maintain my cars flawlessly.

The water outlet housing that contains the thermostat is a know problem on the 4.2 litre NA engines. It is wise to replace the outlet assembly each time the vehicle has a coolant change as if it cracks and the engine overheats due to coolant loss, it may cause catastrophic damage to the heads and cylinder block.
The water outlet pipe comes fitted with a new thermostat, gasket and water temperature sensor.
