Hi, my name is Mary I have a Jaguar XF 2.2 with 116000 miles on the clock and we think it has thrown a Conrod through the engine block is this a common occurrence at this millage or just bad luck would love to know the cause. I had been having issues with the car going in and out of limp mode and an intermittent battery not charging warning for around six weeks. There was no Oil warnings the engine just lost power it still starts and runs but very noisy and obviously throwing oil everywhere first f time but misfiring due to conrod issue any ideas? Hole in engine block
Yes threw a rod it seems. That is the bearing run from the rod end.Not sure about the diesel models but the XF petrol do not have a oil pressure warning light, just an electronic dipstick that needs to be checked on a ongoing basis. You will not be warned if th oil is low. When we the last oil change?
Hi Mary, that is a very unfortunate failure, I suppose you are aware that the engine is totally destroyed- this is not a repairable situation. Can happen due to oil starvation to that bearing for any reason, e.g. not enough oil in engine, old oil, foreign object blocking oil gallery; or due to a conrod bearing cap coming loose but this is rare. You say it starts and runs- running this engine for even a matter of seconds risks destroying any components, such as cylinder head and valve gear, that may possibly still be salvageable. Might mean the difference between needing a 'short' engine (new engine block and components therein, your cylinder head is re-used) and a complete engine. Although unfortunately you are most likely up for a complete engine already.
Normal change oil around 20k did filter lat time at the local repair shop and fuel and air. We used Redex to clear the DPF issue just after the mini service. yes no one can say about OIL but surely there has to be a warning message available from the ECU Otherwise it a very poor design and a dangerous one at that,
Thanks for your reply.
