Could someone please post a photo of the bracket that supports the inner rear corner of the coolant reservoir on the 4.2 supercharged XF? Mine is broken and I would like to see what it is supposed to look like. I might machine a replacement from aluminium as I think it is likely to be a difficult part to source. My broken one:
A photo of this area with an intact support bracket would be much appreciated, thank you.
I thought I would help and take a photo for you, but just realised/discovered mine is broken exactly like yours. Hard to see the bottom of the bracket but it does feel like whatever went through the resevoir hole snapped off ?

Well that is interesting, perhaps it is another common fault to add to the list. If I end up making one I'll give you a shout. Welcome to the forum. Where in Aus are you coolabah?

Thank you for the welcome. I am down the south coast of NSW.
My thoughts were maybe drilling a hole through ther bottom of the bracket ( I think there is a vertical flange in the centre , so as close to that as I can ) then a cable tie for now. guessing movement of the resevoir not a good thing !
Thank you very much for taking the trouble fivel.
I found this image which suggests that the bracket is moulded captive to the reservoir, further pressure to make one rather than try to find a replacement bracket. https://www.picclickimg.com/d/w1600/...Sensor-for.jpg

The one shown maybe, but the one on my 2012 XF is not moulded captive. I had to move the tank in order to get at the retaining nuts on the LHS front strut and the tank slides out of the black bracket. You have to be very careful how you slide the tank out and also slide it in. It is easy to see how the black bracket can be broken.

Thank you for that info. I'll have a look and see how feasible it is to make a bracket that slides off the projection on the tank.

I must apologize for giving you the wrong information. In fact the black bracket is molded to the tank. I have attached 2 pictures showing (1) the bracket on the tank and (2 ) where it attaches to the car.
This is what happens as you approach 77 years of age and did the job about 4 weeks ago!!
Thanks very much for that, those photos give a very good indication of what I need to do.
I would love to see it ! In the meantime I decided to drill a slot in the bracket and cable tie it. Probably a bit of a bodgy job but I thought it would be better than nothing. In my car the bracket has heaps of vertical and horizontal play ( as if that is part of the design? Does yours move around ??) Excuse the poor photos especially the last one. slot for cable tie broken bracket- note the part that orientates onto the tank. final
I have temporarily drilled mine and put a 6mm bolt through it, when time permits I'll knock up a more permanent solution. Although we all know what happens when you make a temporary fix....
