Default XF Battery Drain.

Hi everyone.

Ive has my XF for about 6 months and love it. Unfortunately I seemed to have been struck down with a battery drain issue.

Something is pulling about 6A constantly from the battery. I’ve put an amp meter across the battery in series and pulled every fuse but nothing seems to curb this extraordinary battery drain. The car needs jump started every day.

The battery has had been replaced and holds it charge if disconnected and when running there is plenty coming from the alternator so can rule out these things I think.

Can anyone with any knowledge possibly help and point me in the right direction?

Other problems to be tackled are for future posts.

Thanks everyone.

Leave everything connected and instead measure voltage (tiny, i.e. mV) across each fuse.

(A fuse is a small value resistor so there will be a voltage across any that's got current flowing.)

Google search your problem, there is a thread somewhere that refers to this being tracked to an ignition relay sticking on and not opening when the car is shutdown.

Thanks for your quick reply! Do you happen to know which relay is the starter relay? I can’t find out anywhere which relay is which.

A much more common problem on the S-Type than the XF, although time will tell as these age. Try the methods in this thread and attachment, seems to help a lot of people.

Got to the bottom of it. It was the passenger door lock actuator. As soon as it was replaced the problem was solved. Thanks for all your help everyone. So glad these forums are help to help everyone out.

Well done! How did you narrow it down to that?

I remembered that the door lock started playing up around similar time to the battery drain. Also the fuel flap occasionally opening when starting the car causing the same battery drain. The circuit is sometimes left open and not allowing the electronics to shut down.
