Default XF Flexi Pipes Repair

Hi All,

Just had my XF back from Stratstone after having a diagnostic and health check. They've given me an estimate of over 2k for jobs!!!!

The main problem is the flexi pipes on both cats are badly leaking causing rough idle on cold start and lots of fumes under the bonnet and in the cabin.

Has any one used the repair kits available and done the work them self? I've printed off the Cat removal procedure and it looks easy but would like to hear from some one who has done it.

The other items raised were a leaking water pump and both rear fog lights not working.

My XF is due a cam belt change so need to get a price from an independent, not tackling that myself. The fog lights I believe could be the loom in the boot lid.

Any comments or advice would be greatly received.

Thanks.

Don't know about England, but in the States we have muffler shops that can replace just the flex section at reasonable prices. Sounds like your shop wants to replace the entire pipe.

Which of the XF engines have cam belts? I know the 5.0L definitely doesn't.

The OP shows his location as Leicester and he mentions Stratstone (a UK JLR dealership), so it's odds on he is in the UK and has a diesel - 2.7 V6, 3.0 V6 or 2.2 I4. IMHO it's his handle "texaspete" that causes the confusion.
These diesel engines have timing belts not chains, and cracks in the flexi pipes (just before the cat converters) are relatively common and most independent workshops can replace the flexi pipes fairly cheaply, well for a lot less than what a JLR dealership will charge.

I have a 2009 XF 2.7D Premium Luxury and I had leaks on both flexi pipes. Repair on independent costed me 200€. The guy said he had a lot of work getting there to change it since there is not a lot of space.

Wish you luck.
