XF Fob Replacement

XF Fob Replacement
One too many times through the washing machine. The electronics still work (no longer). The emergency key holder will not stay in place. I bought a replacement key fob case on Amazon that is supposed to match the electronics board. Not quite; there are plastic extrusion stubs. Even cut out it does not close up enough to put the metal part on it.. Jaguar parts says $400 for the fob, and $185 for reprogramming. Are there replacement key fobs that are not $400?

I'm guessing your looking for your 2014 3.0 SC AWD?
Do you have just the one FOB or both? With just the one, things get a lot more complicated. For easy programming, you need the two original FOBs but there are other options such as "all lost". There is actually many posts on this site about FOBs, identifying, programming and requirements.
The fact that your posting this also tells me your most likely not using or familiar with JLR SDD. I'm surprised that the dealers are still charging so much for the FOB replacement as these FOBs have dramatically dropped in price. I believe I paid less than $30 Canadian for a 315 Mhz backup which to 10 minutes to complete.
You have a few options, you can go the dealer route, you can find a reputable Locksmith and they can take care of it, you can purchase a new FOB (Being that you have the correct frequency and board to your VIN) and have a Locksmith program it or you can program yourself.

The jaguar diagnostic software can program key FOBs as well. There are lots of posts about this on the site.

I have done this many times for both the 2010 and 2014 XF cars (Two different FOB styles and boards) I have done the "All keys lost", "Add a Key" and "Remove a Key" features.
Just have to keep in mind a few things;
1. You need a good OBDII network interface cable, Mongoose is very popular (Ensure it is the Drew Technologies and not the clone) I use the JLR VCI
2. Software and laptop are working properly (I use the tethered online connection but some use the offline version)
3. You have continuous power to your vehicle at all times (I use a flash/reprogrammer power supply)
4. New FOBs and/old previously working FOBs (I prefer new FOBs as they are so much cheaper now, I once used a FOB off Ebay, never again as it was a used one married to the old vehicle, I could get it to open and run the car but this was hit or miss and it would not work in the emergency slot) Also I have had new keys fail after trying everything, in the end I would just grab another and discard the failed one, like I indicated earlier, they are not the $200 plus for FOBs any more. I get the 2014 for under $30 complete and the 2010 for $30-50 CDN.
5. You need to follow the instructions exactly as outlined. There are many tutorials and videos on how to do this.
