Not that I would wish the issue on anyone but hopefully someone has some experience and can help with my problem. 2012 xf with 82k on it. Had 0 issues with it until last 2k. Then 2 fuel injectors went as well as water pump and related hoses. Didn’t seem to shift right after getting back for these problems, which occurred almost simultaneously. Problem seemed intermittent and between 1st and 2nd gear only. Then last week the check engine light came on and the gearbox fault warning has popped up a few times. Car would either not shift out of first gear or at all on a couple of these occasions. Turn it off and on again and it would shift. Took it to a friend who owns a garage and the following codes came up: P0711, u3000, p0781, u0122, p0103, b1087, u101b, p0500, p0501, u0401. Most all these seem related to lost communication between various components and somewhat support my lay person belief that this seems more electronic than mechanical. Of note is that the back up camera started to not work a week prior. It does display momentarily but then shuts off and says to contact the dealer. Perhaps related to wiring? Also, the battery died during all of the other repairs. Installed new one but seems there is a wiring harness that does not have a home, I am unsure as to whether this is from an unused option or that it may be related to issue as I have heard battery issues causing these types of problems, please see picture, the wires are black and brown with white stripe. Could really use some help and guidance as to whether this is major or perhaps an issue that is well known. Thanks in advance.
If the problems happened immediately after they pulled parts off the engine to do the fuel and cooling system work, then you would have to start by pulling it apart again to check their work. The plastic crossover in the rear requires working around the engine harness and there connectors to be removed to do the work. There's a very good chance the "pros" screwed something up by not assembling everything correctly, or worse, they could have damaged wires by being hamfisted.
Is the battery charging ok? And if you pull all the codes now and clear them all, do they come back?
Much of what you describe could be a weak battery. Or as lotus says a wiring issue
I'd also suggest checking the battery ground terminal is properly and securely connected. If the new battery install wasn't done well or the terminal connector is corroded it might just be making a poor connection with the battery
That "wiring harness without a home" - the wire with the white plug on the end - is nothing to worry about.
It is used by the dealership as part of the pre-delivery set up and is never needed or used again.
Thanks for the responses. The codes have not come back but still shifts oddly. Battery is charging correctly but the issue did start immediately after water pump and crossover work.
Update and help still needed. Ok so now the codes/gearbox fault have come back and the car will not switch out of park. I even disconnected the battery again to clear most of old info but no effect. It does now seem to be making a buzzing noise on start up that seems to be coming from someplace in rear of engine compartment, I know it is going to need professional fix but wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to narrow down. Still very much seems to be an electronic issue as the adaptive head light malfunction also comes on with gearbox fault most of the time even though they are unrelated systems.
