XFR Engine noise, does yours sound like this?
When I first bought the car I thought it was a little usual, coming from the slient 4.2 XJR I took it to my Jag specialist who listened to it and agree'd it was normal for this engine, he even had a 500bhp XKR in at the time and started it up so I could listen and sure enough it sounded the same.
Today I had my car serviced at another garage, when he handed back my keys he said the noise is coming from the timing chain and I should consider getting the tensioner's done soon. I told him I was informed they sound like this due to the loud injectors and type of fuel pump, he kinda agree'd but said it was louder than a 500BHP Range rover he done previously.
So does your's sound like this or is the 2nd garage right?

most likely a worn SC isolator coupling . The slightly uneven speed of the
crankshaft at idle speed excites some vibration on the SC rotors due to
the worn isolator coupling. On cold starts idle speed is a bit higher so
exitation frequency is different and the effect isn't as obvious .
It's a well known problem on the Eaton SC used in the Aj133 engine.
To narrow down the problem remove the SC driving belt and listen to the result.

From memory that sounds like mine - nothing jumps out as being a completely different sound anyway (although maybe we've both got the same issues!).
Isn't the SC belt due for replacement around the 100k (ish) service? If so, that could be a good point to get the SC isolator coupling checked out as per f-driver's post.
^ I have this occasionally: is that a sign that tensioner replacement job is imminent?

do you hear a rattling sound under hard acceleration?

sounds of the SC (depends on engine idle speed) .
Remove the engine top cover and the sound gets more pronounced.

That's a very good suggestion!
Easy to check too. Just remove the SC belt and see what changes. Car will drive fine as I lost a idler pulley on my old 2005 STR.
Took a couple of weeks to get the part in and I drove it like that every day to work. No check engine light just a VERY low powered car at that point!

OK< few things,
when cold does it make the noise, or only on warm restart, and then seems to go away after some time and some reving,
when started cold and driven dosent seem to make noise??
if so Its like mine!! so far traced it to driver side of engine, looks like tensioners, VVT, or posibly Fuel pump cams, but not getting worse over time, when it does on warm restart almoust sounds like a bad piston.....
i dont like the noise, but havent figured it out yet..

Supercharger belt off, the sound didn't change, so it's none of the running gear for that or the charger itself. The timing chain and tension was inspected and to use his words "chain in very nice condition with the right amount of give and tight tension when pressed, no slack when released."
It this point I'm hunting for a problem I don't have, I not about to spend money replacing chains and tensioners risking it to sound the same after my bank account has been emptied. I'll keep an ear on it and forget about it in the meantime, if a 26k mile XKR sounds the same as my 100K XFR then I think I've got some OCD starting.
Thanks every-one for your input and help in my thread!

Was in Jag, today after a meeting, we basically concluded that it's propably something in the VVT units, they not to expensive, but we basically decided that since its not a chain issue , it can't affect the engine, and therefore it's more a nuisance then issue, since once you rew and are driving , noise stops, until u restart the car, and if infringement of tesco, everyone looks why such a car sounds like will fall to pieces . Lol will record the video on mine tomorrow.

I have a 2011 Range Rover Sport SC (same engine) that sounds like that. My XFR sounds so much quieter and smoother. My RRS is at the dealer. They are replacing a stretched timing chain, timing chain tensioners and rails as suggested by TSB, and my supercharger isolator.. While they are there, I told them to also replace the water pump
