I have a similar issue with my transmission - when the fluid gets hot, if I drive it really hard in 4th I can get it to "jump" to 6th.
I've done a lot of research into this and the cause is problems with the E Clutch in the transmission, which in most cases is almost certainly worn clutch or stator bushings. Jaguar knew of this issue and issued a TSB (attached) for issues caused by worn bushings, which they acknowledged as a problem in the TSB.
Unfortunately the only fix is to either have the transmission repaired or replaced.
I'm in the process of rebuilding a spare transmission (with uprated clutches etc) so I can swap it out once it's built, but it's not a job for the faint-hearted.
