Well my friend, welcome to the forum ;o)
Now, before you get a chance to be corrupted.....the ONLY plugs
for your car are:
NGK Platinum BKR6EVXA-13 gapped at 45 thou
NGK Iridiums BKR5EIX-11 gapped at 45 thou

When replacing these plugs make sure you use an anti-sieze compound on the lower half of the threads and torque them at no nore than 18-20 lbs/ft.

Before replacing the coils, pull the rubber boots off, give them a clean and give the little spring attached a slight stretch which will help to get a better contact to top of plug.
Have a look at my Power Base pics for a full explanation.
Enjoy your new toy ;o))

Thanks for all the great info. My 19 year old son just bought a 1998 XK8 with almot 120k on her. Learning very quickly about spark plug tube leaks. The coolant looks awful and I was very happy to see the great job you did depicting the flushing process. Thanks very much for that.

Cheers

No problems my friend...always handy to have some pics lying about and some firt hand info to do the job properly.
The XK8 is the same system as the XJ8 and when done properly and changed at the prescribed intervals you will have no problems.
People start jumpingup and down and blaming this and that when it all boils down to lack of maintanance at the proper times with the proper fluids and repacement parts.
These cars are well designed...you just have to use a modern mind set ;o))

Seems both are Iridiums. The second is Platinum Iridiums are they the ones that last longer?

Thanks

I think either one would do the trick.
I use the Platinum Iridiums in my daughter's Mitsubishi Grandis.

Went with the BKR5EIX-1. Expecting the new gaskets and or seals today. A question came to mind about the use of any type of gasket sealant or dressing on these. It looks like whoever installed them last, used regular black RTV, which could have been the reason for the leakage. Any thoughts?

Hello Bret....yes, that is most likely why they leaked.
The seals on the cam covers and plug well seals are fitted dry and CLEAN....it's their design that makes them work when they are fitted correctly.
Clean all mating surfaces with paint thinners or carb cleaner.
There are only two points where rtv sealnt should be used and that is a small dap where the front timing cover meets the heads.
I suppose the previous drongo has slathered the stuff every where!?
Make sure the grooves in the cam covers are as clean as possible.
Torque them down to no more that 8nm.

Originally the plugs were gapped at 45thou by the factory but at the time ('97-98) a TSB was issued concerning uneven idling and the gap was widened to 52thou to cure this.
In the meantime, fuel has changed and Iridiums were not available then so, the original 45 thou works just fine ;o)

Just finished and buttoned the whole thing up only to realize I only torqued the spark plugs to 13 ft lbs. do I have to undue all that I did and get them up to 18? The car started and ran great so far. If I have to no big deal just will have to do it tomorrow night.

Just decided to tighten them up a little.

So I just went back and tightened them all to 18 and started the car and it went into limp mode. I was like are you serious it ran well before I changed the plugs now I broke it! The check engine light came on also. Shut it right off tried again same thing again. Finally I figured it out, I forgot to reconnect the mass air flow sensor connection. After i hooked the sensor back on limp mode stopped but the check engine was on still. I did a hard reset and the engine light went off. I took it out for a test drive just to make sure and it runs well no more lights.

If ya can't fix it break it my dad always used to tell me and I was thinking i did just that.

Hunting around for the right plugs for my 1999 X308 3.2 litre...Whats your thoughts on using these please xjay8? Do I assume that the 4 litre and 3.2 non S/C would take the same plugs.

Gippsalnd, both engines use the same plugs.
Go to Bursons or Repco for the NGK's....don't waste your time
looking for other plugs, these were the factory reccomendations.

Bursons and repco have no idea what NGK Iridiums BKR5EIX-11 are. Let alone the price for platinums. Was looking on Amazon $58 for 8 plus delivery ($460 probably)
No Iridium are listed for the 3.2 litre that I can find in either Bosch or NGK in Oz.(or OS) Only platinum.
My service history shows plug were charged to previous (first) owners @ $800 for the set (Leaver Jaguar Sydney)
Thanks again xjay8.

You must have a Luddite Repco ;o)=)
That's rubbish!
$800 frickin' dollars for a plug change!!!
They saw the owner coming!!
Both the 3.2 and 4.0 litre use the same plug and heta range.
Have you checked the Oz NGK site?
