Default V V T Seal Removal ?

Hi All,

I have a small oil leak on the left valve cover, so replacing all the gaskets and seals. I have the cover off, and all the seals are easy to replace with the exception of the VVT seal. I started removing it, but it started to tear.

Looking at the replacement part, looks like it is threaded?

Anyone have any tips on removing this seal without causing unnecessary damage around that area? Seems to be absolutely solid and won't budge.

Any guidance/help is much appreciated.

Regards,
Beaky

knock it out from the inside with a screwdriver and a good rap. when reinstalling put the cam cover over the head WITHOUT the seal instlled before you tighten bolts. slip the new seal down over the VVT and push down by hand to seat. without the bolts tight it will center the cover and seal around the solenoid. wipe the solenoid clean first

Just to add to Brutal's comment, the seal can be replaced without removing the valve cover just by prying it up.

Default Thanks

Excellent! Thanks for the responses and help.

It's been a pretty easy job other than the VVT seal.

All back together and no leaks. Thanks again to this forum, and JTIS. Saved me quite a few bucks for just a simple oil leak :-)

Regards,
Beaky
