Last night I was driving on the highway at roughly 70 mph, when suddenly the 'Restricted Performance' message 'Battery' and flashing 'Check Engine' light came on, followed by an in inmidiate decrease in power. I was able to get off the highway and while stopped at a red light the engine stalled, I was able to turn it back on but not without an incredible amount of white smoke coming out of the exhaust and the car started shaking like a tank. I was finally able to limp to a safe location, roughly a mile away with the stalling, shaking and smoke repeating itself after every stop. The car would also shut off if placed on reverse and it's now parked awaiting pick up tomorrow to the nearest dealer. Has anyone ever experience anything like this before?

 

EdwardG, Did you figure out what it was about? It was a dangerous situation. Could it be a leak in the cooling water system? Hope your car is fixed by now.
