2018 Lincoln Continental

I looked at them all before buying mine. The Lincoln, Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. None really had the features and engine power to trip my trigger except the Jag. A 1966 Lincoln with suicide doors would be a nice trip down memory lane but if I went that route, I think I would prefer a 1963 Thunderbird. I love the space birds.

It does look as if they were wondering what style to follow, then saw the Jaguar XJ ! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. However the rear is totally unlike the Jaguar which is much higher. Actually the Lincoln looks like what the Jaguar should have been from the start. Sorry for this heresy !!

I do think there is a decided resemblance to the XJ, but I don't find the lines quite as graceful or pleasing to the eye. From a standpoint of reliability however, based on the sixteen Lincolns I have owned over the years (including the new Navigator I bought earlier in the year) and the two Jaguars, I think my next car is more likely to be a Continental than another XJL. As Fraser Mitchell said, sorry for this heresy.

I first saw the Lincoln Continental concept car on display the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance a few years ago and thought it had great presence and looked stunning. The retro 60’s interior was cool and the blues they used were great. Then I got invited to see the production model at the Lincoln Experience Center in Newport Beach CA, shortly after it was introduced. I was shocked at how it looked similar, but the proportions of the production car just lacked the beautiful rounded lines of the concept. The front end and back end looked strange to me and just looked cheap. I realize concept cars rarely become reality due to laws, safety requirements, production issues, material costs, etc. and you can tell these impacted the final product. It a shame they couldn’t stick closer to the concept car’s elegant design, I probably would have gotten one.
The production Continental I saw, but did not drive, was the black label edition with all the toys stickered around $78k. It was a nice car, but I don’t see it drawing many people away from competitors. The 30 way seats were awesome, and the best seats I have ever experienced, but I was not super impressed with anything else.
The XJ is a much better looking car inside and out in my opinion.
Some photos of the concept car. Hard to tell from photos alone, but there are huge differences between the two.
