Added Meridian Seat back speakers w/o Super Premium Amp
Greetings. I have the 825W Surround Sound System. I upgraded all of the speakers and subwoofers to the premium kevlar speakers that are associated with the 1300W Reference Sound System a while back. Back in January, I found the premium kevlar seatback speakers on eBay. Additionally, I found a seller that was selling seats that had seatbacks with the speaker grills. I purchased the just setbacks. I was planning to buy the Super Premium Amplifier, but sellers are still wanting over $2k for one.
After seeing the speakers laying around in the garage for months, last week I decided to install them. I installed the seatback speakers without the Super Premium amp, as that amp has 2 additional channels for them.
I spliced into the front driver and passenger door midrange speaker from the trunk near the amp. I then ran the speaker wire from the trunk through the backseat and underneath the backseat carpet, and feed the wire up through the break in the carpet underneath the driver and passenger seats.
I completed this about a week ago. The sound quality is insane! The sound is more robust, detailed and the clarity is amazing! Adding the seatback speakers took the sound system to a new level. So far, so good. I was a bit concerned about damaging the amp or not getting much sound from the newly added speakers. It’s a dramatic improvement.
I’m not a big fan of the Reference System mid range speakers shown above. The sound seems to be a bit recessed and acoustic. It’s not bad, but I prefer the sound of the Surround Sound System mid range speakers. As such, I removed them and went back to the original mid range speakers. The premium subwoofers and tweeters are phenomenal though! Huge difference from the Surround Sound System.
Overall, this is an easy upgrade if you can find the parts. You’ll need the seats with the upper seatback bulge. Those seats will have the plastic mounts for the speakers. The most difficult thing to find will be the Meridian seatback speaker grills. The speakers themselves can be found as they are on the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. If you can find the parts, I highly recommend doing this upgrade.
