Air Suspension Reliability
Fellas:
Been away from the forum for a while after I switched over to Mercedes. But, after about 4 years, thinking about getting an XJ. Saw a few that I like and going to take a look at them this weekend.
Quick question: How reliable are the air suspensions on these XJ's? I understand that the air struts are on the rear only for this model. Just wanted to see what issues you all had with them, if any.
(Heard about the horror stories with people who had the early Mercedes W220 models....)
Thanks!

I was worried about this when I purchased mine. 2012 from the Dallas sun/heat. I bubble test every season, and I have not yet had a leak, knock on wood.
Purchased at 33k chassis miles, now at about 66k chassis miles.

Rear air shocks rarely fail for many years, on many vehicles. I've been through at least 3 sets of front air struts on my 2003 Range Rover, but never a problem with the rear original set. One new set of fronts on my 2012 Range Rover, again rears still fine. My wife's '97 Olds Aurora rears air shocks lasted 15 years & 130k miles before I replaced them.
And my wife's 2012 XJ original rear air shocks are still fine with 9 years. But when I do need to replace them, I see Rock Auto has them for a good price.
