Answer to old radar detector XJ questions.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place. But I promised to report.
Radar Detector - Escort 360. I have paper work and want to get it up before I forget.
Now, I don't know what is best or where this rates on the list.
I do know it works. Mile a head and gives direction, front, back, sides.
I drove from Gettysburg Pa to New Orleans ( Vietnam Veteran of America National Convention)
The detector was outstanding. Along with an App you download
to cell phone that gives you 'live report' police, accidents, etc.
The trip one way was 1116 miles and I did exceed the limit at times.
They say there are better cars, well I don't know how??
2011 Jaguar XJ Supersport. Nothing could come close and I left behind some upset BMW drivers.
The 360 saved me three ticket that I know of and a surprise on Red Light Camera warnings. It was set on Highway all the way. So I have no idea how it is under other conditions.
Simply put- I would buy this again without question.
On XJ GPS-- I did update it before I left. Its not as easy as they say, but you will get through it. Sometimes I found I was passed the turn off before the GPS told me to turn ( watch your speed). I am still a map person but its very good for getting around traffic. ~LATER~

Speed camera?? No, I did not hear that. I don't think we have them in US yet. I received Red Light Camera alerts about 7. An accident alert, a few traffic warning. These came from the cell phone app.
The detector warnings change color Green, Blue and Red. What surprised me is the distance I received Red alerts, a mile or better. One must have been over two miles , if the alert was coming from there. I did get false alerts from shopping centers and things like that but they came in blue & green color. The red was always police. Also, from the cell phone, on the map are small red dots. I found out later these are speed taps others reported and the system documented. Its easy to report, just push a button on the detector and its marks the location.

That is just about the most expensive camera on the market. I see a lot of reviews saying the phone app is terrible and most of the warnings for speed and redlight cameras come from the app. The only thing I care about at all is warnings for speed cameras. They are all over Maryland and the DC metro area. They recently are putting up a new style where it is mounted high on a pole and much smaller than the ones on the ground. Sneaky *******s!
It does alert you to speedcameras as well in areas that have them. Escort's RLC/speedcam database is one of the best around. You can also run Waze on your phone for free which offers an excellent database as well. It also makes for a great countermeasure as well.
Speed cameras: As on the interstate itself, recording the speed of all the traffic? Last Nov I had driven DC to Baltimore a few times. I did not have the detector and did not receive any tickets in the mail for speeding. I have no idea what the detector would have missed. People can enter speed traps. In Florida Rt 10, just East of Pensacola, there where so many warning of traps, the red dots covered the map. All 'live' reports come from phone. Also things like Red Light warnings. The detector only gives radar warnings, which, for me, worked. The cost for mating the cell phone is $5 a month or $50 a year. They give you the first year free. As for me, all I wanted is a reliable radar detector for Highway. The rest is no interest to me. ( the 'live' traffic reports are nice but we get that from GPS)

I absolutely will never pay a monthly fee for anything like this.
FYI: I know someone who's family runs most of MD's camera system. He told me if I ever ran through one and saw the flash to call him immediately and he could get the picture pulled. He said no one in his family has to worry about the cameras.

Yeah, as @JagGate said, it's just for local roads, not for highway usage.
As for Escort Live, don't pay for it. It comes for free with any detector you buy initially. Escort has continually extended people's subscriptions every year and has never actually started charging people for renewals. I suspect that if they did so, they'd lose a lot of users and they need those users to have alerts and compete with Waze, which is completely free and an excellent alternative.

Great State Maryland. Anti 2nd Amendment and now wanting to control highways. These cameras were to be used in troublesome areas, for safety reasons. Its way passed that and most Americans have no idea what is going on..
