Default Anyone know what this part is?

This part makes a high pitch loud sound when engine is running. On a 2011 Jaguar XJ SC. There is another one on other end of engine but that one is fine.

That is one of the 4 cam timing adjuster motors/solenoids. They adjust the cam timing to advance or retard timing. If you look a little below that one pictured you should see another one and on the other bank there should be two of these, also. I had one that went bad within the first year I had my XJ and it made for a slightly rougher idle and impeded performance acceleration a bit. Mine was on one of the exhaust cams and yours appears to be on the intake cam.

Just one of the reasons why a replacement 5.0L SC engine costs $50,000! OUCH!
