Sorry, forgive me I'm not on this as much I'd use to be. Hears a couple of pics I took this morning. Now I should point out that this was third attempt at this but so far seems to be working just fine (last attempt was about 4 months ago). The only noise I get from the roof is when the car naturally flex's, like going over a speed bump at a angel and it's just a light flexing noise which I'm totally fine with. Also remember to get best access you need to press and hold the sunroof opening button to position one then let go, then press and hold it again until the glass has reached the highest it can go and then let the button go.

Give it a go if you want, but it may take a few attempts. Hope that helps.

I have 2011 XJ SWB, i had a rattle from the back of the sunroof. What i did was: Applied WD40 to the roof sealings from the outside of the car. I sprayed to the inside of the roof. Rattle is gone.

For those that might want to try something, looking through the repair manual, there is a section dedicated just to the glass popping/squeaking. There is a kit that you can buy through http://squeaksandrattles.info/ that supposedly will fix this by applying a little bit of lubricant (LIP AC612/21) to the seal between the fixed sunroof and the associated seal. The repair manual has a fairly drawn out process about making sure you get the lubricant to where it needs to go. So, if you have the repair manual, check out section 501-11 (fixed window glass). Might solve your issues.

Took a look at the site listed above and the kit is fairly pricey (157 pounds to be shipped to the US). So, I am curious if I can find the lubricant separately. So, if you have a lead, let me know.

Hello

First time posting so forgive me. I just wanted to add my two cents on this extremely annoying problem.

I bought my CPO 2012 XJL Supercharged 5.0 last January and have had nothing but problems with the rattling sunroof. I have had in no less than 6 times for dealer to fix it. They replaced headliner clips, the arms on the side of the sun roof, and other miscellaneous clips amongst other things.

I finally had enough of it the last time I took it in about 3 weeks ago and they came back and said they didn’t notice anything wrong when it was in to replace the left rear vanity mirror and to speak with my service advisor. So when he called me I told him that we were going for a test drive because this needed to be fixed, and to make sure we were all on the same page about what was going on.

I get to the dealer and we go for a test drive. We do not even get off of the dealer property and the sunroof is making so much noise its hard to even have a conversation. We continue to drive around and finally head back to the dealer. This is on a Thursday and I go to drop him off at the front door and he says to me which loaner car were you in? I tell him and ask him are you wanting to keep the car now? He says yes this has gone on long enough and needs to be fixed.

Finally!!! So he keeps it a week and I hear back from him this past Monday and says that all the parts have come in to fix it and that it will take about 2 full days for repair and will be done on Wednesday.

I get the call yesterday afternoon that the vehicle was fixed and ready to be picked up. I go to the dealer and speak with the service advisor who advises that he test drove the car after the sunroof was fixed and noticed that the right front door and the driver seat were making noises and has the techs fix that as well. I am guessing that I could not hear them over the obnoxious sunroof popping.

I get the keys and take the car and drive it. All I can say is WOW! The car is very quiet now and I do not notice any hint of noise coming from the sunroof at all. I drive around for about an hour and then again this morning and all is well for now. Hoping that it stays that way.

Here is what the dealer put on the sheet that they did for other people to see. Hope it helps someone else out.
(Sorry about the all CAPS that is all the dealer put it in on the sheet that I copied it from)

Hi Langstraat, I've recently purchased an XK and am looking for a good independent specialist in the Yorkshire region.

Who did/do you use and are they fair/reliable?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum kitt-2000,

This is not the appropriate forum to ask for advice on either the XK or Yorkshire independents. It is also over three months since Langstraat was last logged on the forum.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Tried to get mine fixed twice with the CPO warranty and both times they tried quite a few things, First time, the removed the roof and replaced the entire sunroof assembly. When I got it back it creaked and groaned every bit as much. The next time they found a cracked weld in the roof and waited and waited for Jaguar to approve the repair. Took jaguar 5 weeks to make their decision and customer satisfaction cost them an additional set of illuminate door sills, rear spoiler and power vents for the sides (asked for orana wheels but they said no :-( ).

They fixed the weld and it's better, but there's still a creak when the body flexes. It sounds like headliner, but I'm not sure.

Learning to use the radio more - higher volume, no creaking :-)

I sold 2015 XJ with the cracking sound when it flex (I think there wasn't any way to repair that sunroof noise) for a new F-type, now I am happy, not any cracking or interior noise. It is an engineering fault to me

I had a noise from the front right corner after my windshield was replaced recently. My Tech found that the "A" pillar trim was rubbing against the windshield. So he used a piece from the "squeak and rattle" kit that all Jaguar dealers can get from the factory (was felt on one side and adhesive on the back side) to mitigate the noise, so far permanently. Can I tell you that your non listing of location and XJ details does temper my replying to a forum member.

If the temperature is below 60 the creaking is a constant companion in my motor, and it was supposed to have had K117v3 done in June 2012. I wonder if this TSB will make any difference.

My creak happens with the panels open or shut, roof open or closed. To be honest I'm not sure that it isn't because of torsional damage to the car at some point, rather than just down to the roof.

... actually, I think I would miss the creaking if it stopped now - I certainly worry on hot days when the silence takes over!
